The Best Places to Find Used Golf Clubs

I like to golf, but I'm not good enough, or rich enough, to be able to afford a new set of Callaway, Ping or Cobra golf clubs. I want a new set, but that probably won't ever happen, so these are the places that I looked when I bought my “NEW” used set of clubs.

The first place I looked was in the local newspaper, but there were only two set of men's clubs advertised, and one set of ladies clubs, so it was pretty much a bust. But I went and looked at the two sets of men's clubs anyway, but neither one fit me, and even if the second set had, all the clubs, but one, needed a whole new set of grips.

I then went to the public golf course's pro shop to see what they had available. They had 2 sets of used Ping's on consignment, and one set of Callaway's. Both of the set's of Ping's were only about 20% less than a new set, and the Callaway's were left handed. (I already golf bad enough without trying to golf left handed.)

I then looked at the used clubs on Craig's list. Craig's list has a ton of used golf clubs to choose from. With a discontinued set of Ping G5 Irons, with CSLite Steel Shafts, costing $500 at the online discount golf stores, and a new set of Ping Rapture V2 Irons going for $1400.00, Craig's list was sure to be a whole lot cheaper.

OK, they still weren't that cheap! In all of California, the home of country clubs, rich celebrities and other people who can afford to golf every day, there was only one set of Callaway's for sale, and they were an old set of Callaway X-14 Pro Series for $1,300.00. Sure the X-14 is one of the best sets of irons ever invented, but if I had $1,300.00 to spend on golf clubs, I would have bought a nice new set of Ping's. So Craig's List didn't have the used golf club values I was looking for either.

I then checked for Ping and Cobra clubs and came up with an ad that had King Cobra 3400 I/XH irons, plus 1 Mizuno number 2 iron and a “very” used Ping bag for $500.00, but anyone who has seen the 3400 I/XH irons know how ugly they are, even if they do have a nice swing to them. There was also a set of Ping irons, but they were way to short for me. Everything else was a mishmash of mixed clubs and drivers. Sure, some of the clubs were nice, but I didn't want to have to buy three sets of clubs to make one set that that worked.

What I finally ended up doing was picking up an “ugly” set of Callaway X-14 Pro Series Stiff Flex irons for only $24.50. And, that price included shipping and handling. Sure some guy in Michigan isn't very happy about what he sold his clubs for on EBay, but if I hadn't of come along, he would still be stuck with a beautiful set of clubs, with shafts too long for most people, just sitting in his garage. But, instead of that waste, he ended up making $10 after shipping and handling…. Can you say OUCH?
