Those Old Golf Clubs Might Be Worth More Than You Think!

I saw this sign in the paper the other day, and decided that that was a really good idea. I had 3 sets of used golf clubs, and if I sold them, then maybe I could get a good used golf cart. Sure it's better to walk and get all that exercise and stuff, but if you have a cart, you can get in twice as much golf as you can when you walk, and everyone knows that an upper body workout burns more calories than walking.
So, I drove into town and dug out my old set of crappy clubs that I'd had since I was in high school, some 25 years ago. Why I was still carting them around after all of these years, is beside me, and who would want them was another mystery, but if I was going to sell some clubs, they might as well go too. My other two sets of clubs were an entry level set of Cobra's and a little newer set of Ping's that were just a “titch” up the scale from the Cobra's. The Cobra's were over 10 years old, but the Ping's were only a couple of years old and I should be able to get half of the $450 I'd paid for them. I took all three sets home, cleaned them off and got out the digital camera. I took pictures of the ping's and a couple of the Cobra's, but then the camera's battery died. I figured, “what the hey, let's sell what I got pictures of, on Craig's List today…” (If I get any better at rhyming, maybe Dr. Seuss will give me his old cart…) I listed the Ping's for $300.00, which was about 2/3rd's of what I paid for them. And then I listed the old Cobra's for $100. I got a ton of calls on the first day, and both sets were gone by the third day after I listed them. I ended up coming down a little on both sets, but all told, I walked away with almost $350.00. What was interesting about this whole experience was what happened before I ended up listing the clubs on Craig's List. Since I didn't know what to sell them for, I went to Google and Googled the makes and models of the sets of clubs that I had. Some expired auctions from EBay came up, with prices, so that's where I got the info I needed to sell my clubs. But, what came up, that I wasn't expecting, was what that old set of Spalding golf clubs were worth that I'd bought when I was in high school. Heck, they were even used back then, so who would of “thunk” they'd be worth anything… Well, guess what, they were, and it was a lot! Wait for it, wait for it…. That old set of clubs was old when I bought them, and I really didn't use them that much cause I didn't like them. But, they were a complete set of Hickory Wood shaft A G's from Spalding, and I got almost $1,000.00 for them on EBay from a collector in California. The best part about running into that “Used Golf Clubs for Sale” sign, was that after selling all my old clubs, including the antique Spalding's, I ended up with enough money to buy a 1994 EZGO electric golf cart and had enough left over for a season pass at the local municipal course. See you on the links… (I'm the guy in the purple cart and killer tan.)
